Software Efficiency Report

In the United States alone, there is more than $12.3 billion worth of preventable and ongoing cost associated with unused software and shelfware. This was the finding of 1E's recent study into software efficiency. Over 80% of people surveyed agreed that there was more than $100 worth of waste per PC. Despite this, research indicates that only 9% of organizations are actively trying to manage the problem by regularly identifying and reclaiming unused software.

Unfortunately, merely detecting unused software and shelfware across an often disperate range of systems, locations, PCs and servers presents a huge challenge for many, even ignoring what it takes to actually reclaim and reuse the licenses.

The findings of this report suggest that the problem of waste is likely to get worse if organizations don't focus on managing their software assets more efficiently. Clearly, there is a strong financial imperative to do so.
